Week 4 Journal

Wednesday 24 th January with DAN I had a tutorial with Dan today regarding my progress of my Basecamp work, I was pretty confident that I had done enough as I feel committed to post content on a regular basis. When I went in a sat down Dan admitted that my tutorial was not going to be long, that’s because I had completed all the set tasks for that time. He praised me for my strong scripts, good essays and committed behaviour towards posting on Basecamp. The only thing he wanted me to do was more research focusing on my influences of my script, which was completely understandable and I strive to complete this as soon as I can. Thursday 25 th January with NEIL This session was the most different of all so far, instead of sitting down and listening to a person talking for 4 hours at least, we actually got up and done work, that’s right, physical work! For this session we picked a script from another student and we simulated what it would be like on set when we record our...

Week 3 Journal

Wednesday 17 th January 2018 with TAL Like last Wednesday, we shared out scripts again. Then we watched a movie called ‘Mulholland Drive’ by David Lynch famous film maker known for other titles like ‘Blue Velvet’, ‘Eraserhead’ and ‘Twin Peaks’. I quite liked this movie, because of the gripping mystery of the story and the character developments. I like a good mystery in my movies. It was just a shame that we could not share our thoughts after the movie as it ran over time. I’m hoping that I can do more research into this movie, to be honest it was quite complicated. Thursday 18 th January 2018 with NEIL / DAN We all had a meeting in the morning by Dan regarding attendance of individuals in our course being very alarming, I completely agree as I have noticed some people not turning up to our sessions. I was able to share my opinions to Dan along with others and it looks like we all now understand each other, also Tal’s sessions should now be better as they are separ...

Week 2 Journal

Tuesday 9 th January 2018 This is the first day back from the Christmas holidays, and what any way to kickstart the new year by being involved in a Q and A session with editor ‘Mark Day’ (Editor of Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix to Deathly Hallows Part 2, Ex Machina and the Legend of Tarzan). We were invited by Dan to attend this lecture before the holidays, immediately this sparked an interest as number 1 I was unsure of what the lecture would be (as some of us did not receive an email) and the last lecture I attended was extremely helpful as I learned about movie showcases and festivals, this gives me an idea of how I could help myself grow in this film industry later! This one was surely one of the best lectures I have attended so far in this academic year. I went into the lecture unaware of what was to come. And as soon as it was revealed that Mark was to do a live Q and A, I was hungry for information and knowledge from such a veteran in the editing industry. The ...

Week 1 Journal

Wednesday 13 th December 2017 with TAL In today’s lesson, we watched the movie Catch Me If You Can, a movie directed by Steven Spielberg in 2002. The movie told a story of a young man who adapts his life towards fraudulent crimes and undergoing fake identities to earn cash and live a wealthy life. During these session, we are focusing on the idea of Heroes and Villains and this certain movie toys with this idea. The heroic side of Frank Jr (Portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio) could be he is doing this to support himself and his family, by earning cash he is able to survive and support his mother and father. However picturing Frank Jr under the villainous light, he is undergoing crime as we see, he is a fraud and goes against social morals as he is tricking everyone to believe that he is a pilot / doctor / lawyer / policeman. During the movie, we are positioned with Frank Jr from the start, we see him as our protagonist as we remain with this character and we consistently are attach...
