Week 3 Journal
Wednesday 17th January 2018 with TAL
Like last Wednesday, we shared out scripts again.
Then we watched a movie called ‘Mulholland Drive’ by David
Lynch famous film maker known for other titles like ‘Blue Velvet’, ‘Eraserhead’
and ‘Twin Peaks’. I quite liked this movie, because of the gripping mystery of the
story and the character developments. I like a good mystery in my movies. It
was just a shame that we could not share our thoughts after the movie as it ran
over time. I’m hoping that I can do more research into this movie, to be honest
it was quite complicated.
Thursday 18th January 2018 with NEIL / DAN
We all had a meeting in the morning by Dan regarding
attendance of individuals in our course being very alarming, I completely agree
as I have noticed some people not turning up to our sessions. I was able to
share my opinions to Dan along with others and it looks like we all now
understand each other, also Tal’s sessions should now be better as they are
separating us in smaller groups so we can read each other’s scripts and
therefore have more time to watch the movies that we are given and have more
time to discuss it afterwards. Some of us thought it would be a telling off by
Dan but I disagree this was a wakeup call for those that are not currently
fully engaged with the course and so we can share our thoughts, I felt that Dan
was our shrink when we were opening to him. I was nice for me to share my feelings
and mind to him so we can all improve on the course. However sadly Neil couldn’t
join us due to the horrible winds that happened from last night until later
today, trains and travel methods like trains and buses were cancelled too, so
Dan gave us the work to investigate floor plans and blocking in films.
Friday 19th January 2018 with ERICA
Instead of watching a movie we were given the chance to talk
about Mulholland Drive as it was such a complicated movie. We touched upon a lot
of stuff like meanings, plot, stories, narratives, references, characters and
so many different areas of the movie. I now fully understood the film and have
a good knowledge of it to confidently talk about it. It was nice to also hear
from other student’s point of view to hear their perceptions and beliefs on the
film, it gives me a variety of things to listen and use to better my knowledge
and strengthen myself. I hope we can do this sort of session again, I think we
might as we talked about this sort of session yesterday as we all agreed with
Erica to abandon watching 500 Days of Summer instead so we can focus on this
movie.
