Week 6 Journal

Wednesday 7th February with TAL

I had another one to one session regarding work load, but this time with Tal. It went very similarly to the previous chat, 5 minutes of praise. I need to post my remaining journals and work some more research on my script inspirations, other than that I am on a good track on passing onto year one.

Thursday 8th February with DAN

We covered more on previs today by watching a few examples of film, the films we watched were “Michael Clayton” showing the characters played by George Clooney and Tom Wilkinson as they argue in a prison cell and one of Dan’s own episode from a series made by him also “Girl Number 9” where in this episode we see a criminal laughing at the interrogation table as the detective witnesses the brutal murder of a girl. Dan reveals that it’s not just dialogue that tells a story but the visuals, story can be told through costume, body language, location and facial expressions etc. So that meant that we need to focus on these in order to successfully create thorough plans for our movies. In the afternoon Dan has interviews to attend so we took the afternoon to watch Wes Anderson’s 1998 film Rushmore which was your typical Wes movie with bright colour with an eccentric and weird plot and characters, overall I really enjoyed it and has to now be one of my top Wes Anderson movies closely followed by Fantastic Mr Fox (Which is a great film in my opinion).

Friday 9th February with ERICA

With the ideas of previs being stuck in our heads for the past week, we ventured onto the film Battleship Potemkin a Russian 1925 movie by Eisenberg. This movie uses the idea of Russian Montage where clips are formed together to make a fast paced film, with many cuts included. This film appeared to resemble a propaganda film as it included war imagery and violence, definitely the most disturbing film I watched so far on the course, but nevertheless the loved this silent movie, so eerie and graphic, I loved it!
